Now that the term is over I would like to congratulate Ana, the winner of the Olympic Games in this group, a very deserving winner. I want to thank her because of the interest she has shown in all the activities we have done, especially our play. Her classmates have benefited from it.

Last Tuesday everybody did a good job in the play and I really enjoyed the first performance of Sergio Pastor. He made me laugh a lot. Lucía, who did not like the idea of acting in a play, was really good: she knew her lines perfectly well. And Paola too, even though she had not been to the last rehearsal. And I mustn´t forget the robbers, Nico and Sergio Pastor, who really got into their role.

I think after all that hard work we all deserve a BREAK, so I wish you

A VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR 2014

Hope Santa is good to you,

Your teacher, Begoña

We spent the whole class preparing for our play. First we had to make the tree and the presents. To make the presents we wrapped little boxes in color paper  and tied them up with laces we made with tissue paper. We also used tape. To make the tree we used green construction paper and scraps of color papers for the ornaments.

During the second part of the class we were rehearsing. Paola was missing, I hope she comes next week; today, Lucía had to do her lines.

martes, 3 de diciembre de 2013

Homework: find a postcard and write it for a friend telling her/him what you are doing in your holidays.

Today the teacher could not do much talking. Some questions were written on the board and students had to ask one another:

Where are you sitting?    Ex: I´m sitting next to Ana.

Where is you bedroom?   Ex: It´s opposite the kitchen.

Where did you go on holidays last summer? Ex: I went to the beach.

We are learning about holidays, places where we can go and things we can do there.

These are the words we are studying:

City, seaside, campsite, stay, hotel, skiing, swimming, sightseeing, hiking, fishing, going to the beach, riding your bike, taking photos, skateboarding, going shopping.

Students said where they went on holidays last summer and then they had to write 5 things they could do there, like: You can go fishing in my village. Next, they asked other students: What can you do in your village? or What can you do in Alicante?

We were rehearsing our Christmas play. Actors and actresses did much better  today.

Ana completed her project about her hobby. Good for you¡ I hope your classmates decide to follow your example and learn to be proud of their work.

It would be nice if you looked for something you could wear for the play. Myself I´m gonna try to find a white bear and a Santa´s hat.

Look, it seem the elves wear red and green clothes.

And the robbers, what do you think they should wear to look like robbers?

And the children? What about a nightgown?

Also, see if you can find some ribbons at home.

HELP PARENTS!
Please remind your children to spend 5 o 10 minutes doing their English homework.

Come on boys and girls! When you put time into something it becomes more interesting. This is your last opportunity to print the illustrations for you paper on Your Hobby.

Yesterday we started the lesson with the question: How many grandparents do you have? Grandparents is the word we use to talk about both our grandfathers and our grandmothers, so we may have 4 or 3 or 2 grandparents, or we may have only 1 grandparent or none.

We reviewed the flashcards for actions and then the teacher asked the students 10 questions in the past simple tense:  Did you buy some candy yesterday?
Later students were interviewing each other about things they did yesterday or things that happened yesterday.

We started a new unit. It is about holidays, things we do during our holidays, places where we go for holidays.
New words: beach, seaside, mountains, sunbathe, snowboard, ski, sea, sand, make sandcastles, sightseeing, take photographs, travel, towel.

Students had to describe 3 pictures of people on their holidays.

Homework: again, bring those printed pictures to stick on your paper about your hobby.

Also: find 3 postcards and write where is the place we can see on the postcard and who went there for holidays.

Example:

This is San Marcos´square in Venice. I was there with my daughter in the summer of 2010.

martes, 12 de noviembre de 2013

Only two students did their homework. The other ones said they had not remember.

WELL, DON´T FORGET IT THIS TIME.
NEXT LESSON I EXPECT EVERYBODY to bring the illustrations for the Hobby.

Today students were practicing saying dates: they said when is their birthday and the birthday of a family member.

We continue studying the past simple. We were studying actions like: get up, get dressed - got up, got dressed, have - had, eat - ate, drink - drank, catch - caught, run - ran (all irregular verbs) and other ones that are regular verbs: wash - washed, play - played, talk - talked, help - helped, carry - carried, brush -brushed.

Students had to write questions and answers for their project: My hobby. Most students found it difficult. Only one finished it. We we´ll finish it next week.

For homework you need to write some questions like this:

Do you wash your face everyday? ( In present simple, using do as an auxiliary )

Where did you buy yourT-shirt? (In the Past Simple, using did as an auxiliary)

When do you play the piano? In present simple, using do as an auxiliary )

Who do you go swimming with?  (A question with a preposition at the end. In Spanish we put it at the beginning: ¿Con quien ...?

viernes, 8 de noviembre de 2013

Hello 6th graders, it was a very good first hour.

We started the lesson asking the questions: What year were you born? (I was born in 2000) and Where are you from? I am from Leganés.

2 students ( better than last week) had done their homework well and read it, one student had not understood and the other 3 had not done it. I hope next week is better.

Teacher explained how to make the Past Simple tense. Remember:

Irregular verbs: you have to study the past form. Example: buy/ bought, eat/ate, drink/drank, speak/spoke.

Regular verbs: you need to add the particle  -ed to the verb. Examples: want/wanted, walk/walked, play/played.

To make questions, instead of do you have to put did. A question in the present is: do you make breakfast everyday? A question in the past is: did you make breakfast yesterday?

Students did exercises from book: first, they asked a partner some questions about their hobby, then they wrote down answers. In the second exercised students read aloud some sentences and matched them with an activity.

For the Olympic Games students were divided in two teams. Unfortunately they were talking so loud we did not even finished the game, which was about picking a questions from a bag and answer it or ask partners for help.

Scores
Player 2   3
Player 3   3
Player 4   3.5
Player 5   3.5
Player 6   3
Player 7   3.5

Remember you need to think of 5 questions for your project. And you need to print some pictures to illustrate your project.

My example is
What´s your hobby?   I like roller skating.
Do you have roller skates? Yes, I do.
Where are they? They are in my bedroom, on a shelf.
Where did you buy them? I bought them in a sport supplies shop.
Where do you rollerskate? I rollerskate in the Retiro Park.
When do you rollerskate? I rollerskate every Saturday afternoon.
Do you like it very much? Oh yes! I do, I love it.

Today was our 5th lesson. We started the lesson spelling our surnames or last names and saying our email address. Students ask the other students the following questions:

Ana read her homework. WELL DONE, ANA, you were the only one in the group who had done the homework. The other students had to listen carefully, because I asked them questions to score for the Olympic Games.

We also did a little exercise, so students get used to receive and give instructions.

Walk slowly, walk fast, raise your hands, touch your feet, put your hands on your waist, bend your waist.

We played a game called Around the World: students had be faster saying the word on a flascard.

We did the Olympic Games but I had no time to check their exercise so the scores will not be published until next week.

HOMEWORK
You need to make a list of things you have in your bedroom and write 4 sentences about your hobbies. Example: I love playing tenis.
